Four Qualify for DECA Nationals

Four Haleyville High School – Center of Technology students recently won at DECA’s State Career Development Conference in Montgomery.

The State winners were Nelson Tidwell, completing a Financial Literacy Campaign; Elizabeth Tyson, showcasing the local DECA chapter Community Service Project; Shelton Sparks, competing in Business Principles of Management; and Raven Wright, in Accounting Applications.

These students tested in various Business/Finance/Accounting/ Business Management /Marketing events. They now have the opportunity to advance to the next round of competition at DECA National ICDC conference in Orlando, Florida, where they will compete with 15,000 DECA students from across the United States, Guam, Canada and the Virgin Islands.

Previously, at the North-Alabama DECA qualifying test for the state competition, 16 students qualified to advance to the state conference. The advancing students were: Nelson Tidwell, Elizabeth Tyson, Raven Wright, Shelton Sparks, DJ Terrell, Megan Kinkead, Courtney Bennett, Kelsey Williams, Christina Blanco, Tesha Vickery, Justin Rowe, Nic Palmer, Christian Caldwell, Martin Brown, Jacob Foster and Sha Kinard.

DECA , an Association of Business/Finance/Marketing students, is a co-curricular student-centered educational organization. DECA’s mission is for all students members to develop a “Career Success Kit” to carry into their business and personal lives after graduation. DECA’s teacher and advisor is Neina Middleton.
