Representatives Mike Millican and Ken Johnson, Senators Roger Bedford and Greg Reed

Gary Warren, State Board of Education member and Executive Director of the Haleyville Chamber of Commerce, organized a meeting Tuesday, February 15 at the Lakeshore Restaurant. The purpose of the gathering was to establish a unified voice for Winston County with the theme: Many People. One County. We are Winston! One Voice.

Winston County is unique in that it has three state representatives and three state senators. With last fall's general election, some of Winston's representatives were replaced by members of the Republican party and Mike Millican switched to the Republican Party. This is important, especially considering Alabama now has a Republican controlled House and Senate and a Republican governor. According to Mr. Warren the meeting was not about Democrats or Republicans. It was about having good representation with "one voice" in Montgomery.

Grady Batchelor, the president of the Industrial Development Authority of Winston County, gave an overview of the progress of the county's industrial park located near Lynn. This single tract of land is the largest "AdvantageSite" in the state. It presently has three prospective industries. More info: http://www.winstonadvantage.com/. Batchelor also pointed out in addition to the development of this large industrial park, improvements have also been made in several city industrial parks citing road work for the Haleyville Industrial Park as an example.
