3 Die in Fire

A 2 a.m. mobile home fire just south of Haleyville Monday morning took the lives of two adult men and one juvenile boy.  The three have been identified as Christopher Michael Brimer, 38, Billy Joe Pelt, 35, and Gavin Lynn Cowens, age 9, who was a student at Phillips Elementary School. Gavin"s mother, Susan Childers was able to escape the fire and was treated for smoke inhilation at Lakeland Hospital. The home was located back in a wooded area east of the Botush industrial park and fire tower. Haleyville firemen reported the home was mostly on the ground when they arrived. The cause of the fire is unknown and is being investaged by Deputy State Fire Marshal, Jason Clifton.
