Local motorcycle riders who got together a few years ago to form a benefit ride and event for the Eldridge Children's Home, rode again this year and Air Evac was there! Eldridge Children’s Home is located in Eldridge, Alabama just off Hwy 78 and State Hwy 13 in Northwest Alabama. The home, which accepts no state or federal moneyand has been in operation since 1948.
“The First Saturday in December, All Roads Lead to Eldridge” has been their motto. They are able to fulfill a special “Christmas Wish List” from each child and with donations they are able to operate this home all year long. Riders to bring “gift cards” from retail outlets or give a donations. We at Air Evac are honored to have joined in to celebrate this occasion! |

Professionally Trained
Flight Crew
|
Air Evac Lifeteam's instrument-rated pilots are skilled aviators who become proficient air medical pilots by training under its proprietary and Federal Aviation Authority-approved program. Each certified pilot meets FAA standards and has flown, on average, more than 5,700 hours.
Only pilots who meet or exceed their respective states requirements are considered by Air Evac Lifeteam. Before a pilot can fly for Air Evac Lifeteam, the candidates must demonstrate instrument proficiency in a dedicated flight training simulator. Air Evac Lifeteam is among the few air medical companies with this stringent requirement.
Pilots must also achieve standards established in Air Evac Lifeteam's proprietary, FAA-approved training program. The 14-day course delivers operational and procedural instruction, as well as aircraft and mission-specific training in the Bell 206 LongRanger helicopter.
As part of their continuous improvement program, all pilots are required to complete recurrent week-long training on an annual basis. Mission-specific training includes flying at night and landing on unimproved rural terrain, such as pastures and fields. Base assignment requires rigorous local flight orientation training to become an authority on local terrain, hospitals and landmarks. |

Safety
Flight Data Analysts

Centralized Operations Center
 |
At Air Evac Lifeteam, we consider the safety of our patients and our crewmembers to be paramount. We have taken a leadership position in the air medical emergency services community by implementing numerous safety initiatives. The following provides a listing of a few of our key safety initiatives:
- Flight Data Analysts in the operation center. We presently have 4 pilots, each with more than 5 years of EMS experience that utilize online data related to weather and flying conditions to assist our pilots with ‘real time’ accurate information from which to make safe decisions;
- Risk Matrix System to identify risk factors before accepting a mission;
- Internal Compliance Audits are a key element of Air Evac Lifeteam’s comprehensive compliance program designed to ensure conformity with all applicable federal regulations and pertinent safety initiatives;
- Flight Simulator Program instituted to aid pilots as part of their recurrent training. Air Evac Lifeteam is the only air ambulance service to have made such a substantial investment in this dedicated technology to continuously improve the skills of its pilots.
- Research and Development is an ongoing commitment at Air Evac Lifeteam. Every year considerable financial commitments are made to investigate programs, processes and technologies that put our company on the leading edge of safety innovation in the industry.
Through these and many other initiatives, Air Evac Lifeteam has realized the following safety accomplishments:
- Gold-rated by the Aviation Research Group (ARG/US), an independent aviation research group that thoroughly reviewed AEL’s operations and safety record;
- During the last 17 years and flying over 120,000 patient missions, AEL has experienced neither a weather-related accident nor an accident related to its maintenance program;
- Successfully accomplished a company-initiated, third-party safety review and audit in 2005 by Bill Hendrickson, an aviation industry safety expert;
- Proud to have received numerous safety awards from various agencies, including the Association of Air Medical Services and Helicopter Association International.
At Air Evac Lifeteam, we take safety seriously. Our mission to respond to the emergency air medical needs of rural Americans can only be effectively realized by operating with the highest level of safety for our patients and crewmembers. Our commitment to continuous improvement of our people, processes and technologies demonstrates our commitment to safety and the lengths at which we go to ensure safe operations.
We welcome the opportunity to safely serve our patients for years to come.
Semper Salus!

Membership
 |
It was 1985 and a group of West Plains, Missouri, businessmen met to discuss the plight of their rural community and its lack of access to adequate trauma care in the event of a life- or limb-threatening medical emergency. Air Evac Lifeteam’s founders’ solution was to establish a helicopter air ambulance service. But this program would be different; rather than the traditional hospital-based air ambulance program, the helicopter would be placed in the community where the people live and work. This concept made good sense, but there was one problem; without financial support on an ongoing basis, such a program would not be economically viable. Developed according to a membership-based model operated by Rega, a Swiss air ambulance company, Air Evac Lifeteam established its membership program. In its first year, Air Evac Lifeteam membership totaled 5,000; today, that number totals more than half a million members.
Value of Membership
Without its members, Air Evac Lifeteam would not be in a position to place its aircraft, pilots and medical crews in rural American communities, standing by 24 hours a day to respond to the emergency call. Additionally, Air Evac Lifeteam’s membership program is doing considerably more for its members and others that find themselves in the throws of medical emergencies. On August 30, 2005, just one day following the landfall of Hurricane Katrina, Air Evac Lifeteam responded. Air Evac Lifeteam sent 8 helicopters and more than 65 employees to the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts and, in five days, provided medical transport to more than 100 patients. A similar effort was mounted for Hurricane Rita. These humanitarian efforts that reached outside of the current service area of Air Evac Lifeteam were made possible, in large part, to membership support.
Benefits of Membership
Membership in Air Evac Lifeteam is a subscription-based program. Membership provides prepaid protection against all of Air Evac Lifeteam's transport costs that exceed any insurance or medical benefits you may have.
Although you do not have to be a member to use the air ambulance service, membership offers several benefits:
-
As a member, Air Evac Lifeteam will work on your behalf with your insurance company to secure payment for its flight. For all Air Evac Lifeteam transport costs that exceed any insurance or medical benefits you may have, the company will waive all costs not covered by your insurance or benefits.
-
Memberships are valid in all Air Evac Lifeteam service areas so members are covered while traveling. More than 64 mutually supporting bases are located across 11 states within the United States.
-
Becoming an Air Evac Lifeteam member is a good way to support the health care needs of your community. The company's membership base helps it operate in rural areas where having a quick response time to critical medical situations can save lives. If not for its members, Air Evac Lifeteam would be challenged to provide its livesaving service in many of its outlying communities.
