Christy Scott was recently found guilty of murder for setting fire to her home in Russellville resulting in the death of her oldest son Mason. She was sentenced to die by lethal injection. Christy's husband, Jeremy Scott, has authored a web site for the purpose of showing Christi is innocent and discrediting the judge and prosecutor in the case. The site contains family photos and videos of the police interrogation of Christy and her other son Noah Riley. Mayor Sunseri and all councilmen except Richard Bitinger were present for the council meeting which was postponed from Monday due to a holiday. Business items passed included the regular council minutes of 8/17/09 and work session minutes of 9/2/09. The council approved ordinance 2009-11 making official the banning of cell phone use in school zones. This had been previously discussed but not approved and will become effective October 1. Also previously discussed was ordinance 2009-12 approving fire dues for outside the city limits. The dues are voluntary and will be added to monthly water bills, however if a fire call is made to a business, residence or church which does not participate, a charge will me made for the call. This ordinance will go into effect January 1, 2010.

Approval was made for ordinance 2009-13 which will increase garbage pick-up rates for both residential and commercial customers.

Rachel Christian, Bessemer, was driving north on Highway 13 and as she topped the hill just south of the Boartosh Industrial Park intersection she saw a stopped vehicle in the road. She attempted to stop, but her Toyota struck the rear of the red Chevy Blazer driven by Jason Morgan, 25 of Haleyville. Jason had stopped to make a turn and saw and heard the oncoming car and unsuccessfully attempted to accelerate out of the way. Jason was shaken but otherwise uninjured. Rachel Christian was taken to Lakeland Hosptial complaining of chest pains.

Mayor Ken Sunseri addressed the Haleyville Chamber of Commerce with updates on projects the city has been working on since the present administration took office. The Mayor stated the city has received $1.4 million in grants for various projects including water/sewer, recreation and the airport. The Winston County Health Department will be holding the seasonal flu shot clinics on Friday Sept. 18th in two locations, the Haleyville Neighborhood Facilities Building & in Double Springs at the Winston County Health Department. Clinics will be from 8:30 - 11:00 and 1:00 - 4:00. Children 10 years old and under will need to go to the Health Department in Double Springs on Sept. 21st or Sept. 22nd from 1:00 - 3:00

Haleyville firemen responded to a dust bin fire at 3:17 Wednesday inside the Fontaine Fabrication Plant located in the the Boartosh Industrial Park. Most dust bin fires are usually associated with wood dust, however the Fontaine dust bin collects dust from steel recovered from the cutting and fabrication of parts for trailers or other equipment. Presently the Haleyville

plant is making parts for use by the U.S. military. Fontaine officials praised the professionalism exhibited by the Haleyville firemen in quickly extinguishing the fire.
