Haleyville Police Chief Kyle Reogas request local citizens to be aware of a possible scam on the elderly. Haleyville police are presently investigating an incident which occurred Thursday, August 11.

An elderly couple was approached by men in two white pickups and offered to resurface their drive way. If they agreed to the terms, the cost to them would be $1200 after a promised government rebate. They were asked to write two checks to the their company, one for $10,000 and a second for $7,500. The men told them they would take the checks and return with a life time warranty. After the men with the checks left, the men in the second pickup sprayed their drive with a thin coat of a black substance.

After that crew left, the checks were cashed at a local bank. None of the men returned, thus indicating a scam. If you are approached by strangers in white pickups with out-of-state tags, please call the Haleyville Police at 205-486-5201.
