Baggett Praises Mayor and Council

Superintendent Clint Baggett, in his report to the Board of Education at its meeting Tuesday night, praised the Mayor and City Council saying, “Nobody likes a tax increase, but everybody wants the best city services for all and the best education for our children.” He added, “We applaud these men for having the foresight and courage to face the financial shortfall of both the city and school head-on and take steps to put us on a better financial standing to continue the needed and wanted services.”

In action, the Board approved the following: Board Expenditures for September, in the amount of $1,178,248.34; awarding the bid for copier paper to Lann Chemical in the amount of $28.90 per case of 8 ½ X 11 and $55.00 per case for 8 ½ X 14, effective January 1, 2011, through July 31, 2011; the Substitute Teacher List; an adjustment to the bus mechanic supplement to coincide with the proper number of buses in the fleet; awarding the bid for a 3-section bleacher system with a press box for HHS Baseball Field to Stadium Pros, Inc., in the amount of $69,700.00; two fundraisers; the hiring of Judy Melton for lunchroom worker at Haleyville Elementary School for the remainder of the school year beginning January 4, 2011; and extending the hire of Emily Israel as special education aide at Haleyville Elementary School for the remainder of the 2010-2011 school year.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 25, 2011, 7 PM.
