Christmas by the Lake, sponsored by the Haleyville Fire Department, will be a little brighter this year with a $500 donation made by one individual and four businesses. Most of the lights and decorations used at the lake and stored at the Haleyville airport fire station were destroyed by a fire in October. After learning the first beverages sold in Haleyville could not be legally auctioned off to raise money, the participates decided to simply donate anyway. Michael Stroisch, donated $100, Pete Adair, Scott's Quick Mart, $100, Rick Armstrong, E&A Outdoors, $150, Keith Elkins, House of Brews, $100, and HBTV.US, $50. The money was presented Monday to Phillip Weaver, HFD chief and Mayor Ken Sunseri, by Harold Bearden on behalf of the donors.

Donations of lights or money are still needed. Contact Phillip Weaver at the Haleyville Fire Department. Christmas by the Lake will officially begin December 10. Check this site later for a  complete schedule of opening times and when Santa will arrive.
