A large meth lab was discovered early Friday on 20th Street, requiring the street between 13th and 14th avenues to be closed until 1 PM while Haleyville Police investigated. HPD arrested Billy Anthony Harris, 42, of CR34 in Haleyville. He is charged with unlawful manufacture of controlled substance in the first degree (Ala. Code 13A-12-218), possession of drug paraphernalia (Ala. Code 13A-12-260 and unlawful possession of methamphetamine (Ala. Code 13A-12-231).

HPD discovered a "large, active cook." The Drug Enforcement Administration's HAZMAT unit was contacted. HAZMAT personnel pulled nine buckets of hazardous evidence from the basement of a home in the 1300-block of 20th St. Sources familiar with similar situations said that three buckets of lab material is normal.

Harris previously has been arrested for possession of dangerous drugs (April 5, 2010) and unlawful manufacture of controlled substance in the second degree (October, 2009).
