The City Council has called a Special Meeting for Tuesday, 9:30 AM, at City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to call a Wet/Dry Municipal Election and to give notice as required by law.

The City has received a petition with 680-plus verified signatures. According to Alabama Law, the city is required to call a municipal option election “upon petition of 30 percent of the number of voters voting in the last preceding general election.” 370 signatures were required.

The law also provides that “Said municipal option election shall be held at the time of the primary, general, county-wide or municipal election next succeeding the date of the filing of said petition ….” The June 1 primary is within that parameter.
