Veterans Day

With Veterans Day just around the corner, many local organizations are preparing to celebrate our nation’s veterans. Here’s a list of the upcoming community events.

First United Methodist Church will host a community wide service Monday, November 3, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. Veterans are asked to arrive at 6:00 p.m. for registration. The speaker for this event will be State Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Calvin Underwood. The Walker County Honor Guard will also present the colors for this event, and there will be a community choir. Haleyville’s VFW Post 4543 Commander Dwight Thomas will introduce the guests for this event.

Haleyville Elementary School will host the annual Veterans Day Program Wednesday, November 5. This program will be divided and presented twice. Third-fifth graders will have the program at 8:30 a.m. Pre-K through Second graders will take part in the program at 9:30 a.m. Both programs will be held at the HES Lunchroom.

Haleyville High School and Haleyville Middle School will have the annual Veterans Day Program Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in the gymnasium at HHS.  The speaker for this event will be Harold Bearden, a Vietnam veteran.

Phillips Schools will host the annual Veterans Day Program Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. in the PHS Gymnasium. All area veterans are invited to attend. 

A Veterans Day Parade will be held in Haleyville Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Lineup will be at 9:00 a.m. at Haleyville City Hall. Three local school bands will be marching, and individuals are invited to enter cars, floats, bikes, and other means of transportation into the parade. All parade entries and attendees are asked to bring an American flag to show your support to veterans. For more information, contact Johnnie Wilson at 205-269-4038.
