Lions Clench Key Regional Win

The Haleyville Lions faced Cordova for the Homecoming Game Friday evening. The Lions came out on top with a huge 35-28 regional victory. Here’s a look at the scoring plays of the game.

The Blue Devils took the first points of the evening with 6:29 left in the opening quarter. Jason Clay scored on a 5 yard run, and Templeton completed the point after attempt to give the Devils a 7-0 lead. With 9:51 remaining in the first half, Conner Kiser found the endzone on an 18 yard run, and Reyes added on the extra point to tie the game at 7. Shortly thereafter, Brady Sherrill broke loose on a 42 yard run, and Reyes again added the extra point to give the Lions a 14-7 lead with 6:49 remaining in the half. Cade Adkins scored on a 6 yard run with another Templeton kick to even the score at 14. Haleyville’s Dillon Posey added 6 on an 18 yard run, Reyes added another point, and the Lions again led the game 21-14. The final score of the half came for the Blue Devils on a 3 yard run by Chase Trotter. Templeton again added the extra point to tie the game 21-21 at halftime.

The third quarter was scoreless, leaving the score even at 21 points each for the beginning of the final quarter of play. Central saw its final score of the evening on a 55 yard pass from Trotter to Myles, and Templeton again added the extra points to give the Devils a 28-21 lead with 10:58 remaining in the game. The Lions pushed their way back across the field, and Kiser snuck one into the endzone on a 1 yard run. Reyes added the extra point, and the game was again tied 28-28. The final score of the evening came with only 3:35 left to play on a 2 yard run by Will Evans. Reyes completed the point after attempt to give the Lions a 35-28 lead. In the final plays of the game, the Blue Devils drove into the red zone, but Haleyville’s Will Evans intercepted a pass in the endzone to clench the victory for the Haleyville Lions.
