Board of Education Regular Meeting

The Haleyville Board of Education held its regular meeting Tuesday, January 26.

The board approved the following: Expenditures for October and November of last year: $1,327,804.06 and $1,447,725.46, respectively; Field Trip Request for DECA club members and sponsor Neina Middleton to attend DECA State Career Development Conference in Montgomery, February 15-16, 2010; Awarding low bid to Kidz Zone Play Systems for playground equipment at the elementary and middle schools, $134,882.90; Substitute teacher list; Weighted grade/grade scale/curriculum and criteria for Valedictorian and Salutatorian selection and class ranking beginning in the 2010-2011 school year; Board Member Training Policy; Maternity Leave for Susanne Trallo; and Various fundraisers for band and baseball.

January is School Board Member Recognition Month and Dr. Clint Baggett, Superintendent, presented each member of the board with a Certificate of Appreciation. Baggett said, "Haleyville is very blessed to have the women and men that give countless hours for the betterment of our system."

Emile Gilbreath, who teaches special education, video production, and history at Haleyville High School, demonstrated how she uses technology in the classroom. Students utilize USA Test Prep for Grad Exam practice. Gilbreath said that this tool is vital to her as a teacher. She showed the board the high school's website, produced by her students. Her video students also work with Digital Sports Video, a system for game analysis and scouting used by coaches and recruiters.

The next regular meeting of the board is Tuesday, February 23, 2010, 7 p.m.
