The Lions celebrate after winning Game 1.

Congratulations to the Haleyville Lions who have advanced to the semi-finals of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Baseball Playoffs!

Haleyville hosted Jacksonville Friday evening and swept the round. Senior pitcher, Andrew Townsend, occupied the mound until the final inning of the first game. Zach Marbutt entered the game to get the final two outs of the Golden Eagles’ half of the inning, and Brady Sherill hit a game-winning  double to score the tie-breaking run with Conner Kiser in the bottom of the seventh. The final score was 6-5.  Marbutt also led the Lions to an astounding 10-3 win over the Golden Eagles in Game 2, with numerous solid hits throughout the Lions lineup to secure the advancement.

The Lions will host the fourth round Friday evening, and Saturday if needed. The Lions will face Ardmore in this series, and the first pitch will be thrown at 5:00 p.m. Friday. Game 2 will start around 7:00 p.m., and the if-needed game will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday if the Lions split Friday evening. The winner of this series will face the winner of Charles Henderson and Childersburg in the Alabama Class 4A Baseball Championship Series in Montgomery.
