Early Thursday morning Bear Creek Police Chief Shane Whitten was stopped by a local citizen who reported smoke at the Bear Creek #1 Baptist Church. After confirming a fire in the family center at the church, the Bear Creek Fire Department was dispatched and immediately called for help in fighting the fire from the Haleyville, Hackleburg, Delmar, Pebble, Phil Campbell, Hamilton, Brillant, Blue Springs and the East Franklin Fire Departments. Highway 13 North as well as the Norfolk Southern Railroad in the vicinity of the church was blocked with a water line for over two hours. The state fire marshal was on the scene by noon to investigate the cause of the fire. Listen to Paradise 92.7 for updates.
