New HHS Principal

The new HHS principal, Michael King, was welcomed by Dr. Alan Miller, Superintendant of Education at the Haleyville Board of Education meeting Tuesday following the Board's approval to hire King. The Board also approved a 24 month probationary Haleyville Middle School Principal contact to Richard Bo Wilcoxson. Short two members, Sandra Manasco and Barry Burleson, both out of town, the Board President, Beth McAlpine read several other recommendations from the Superintendent which were all approved. 

The Board approved expenditures for April in the amount of $1,199,300.80, and the use of the baseball field and facilities to the American Legion Haleyville Post 33 Baseball team through July 9. Dixie Store Fixtures, Birmingham, was awarded a contract for $104,800.00 for the installation of HHS lunchroom CNP equipment: serving line, walk-in cooler, walk-in freezer and alarm system. Barbers was awarded a contract for milk for the coming year and Blue Bell will supply ice cream. Lunch prices were also set for the coming school year. 

Band students will be allowed to participate in the Drum Corp international in Murfreesboro, TN in July, and summer school was approved for June 5 through June 25 and July 8 through July 26. The HHS stadium track and associated site and drainage will receive an upgrade with the approval of a contract for professional design services from Goodwin, Mills and Cawood. 

Sixteen fund raisers for the coming year were approved by the board. 

Look for a story soon from Dr. Bill Bishop, head of the Halevyille Center of Technology about a new welding instructor and a new "Master Certified" title for a seasoned instructor.
