The 2013 Haleyville Lions golf season is in full swing. Lions golfers battled cold, wet, windy conditions in the month of March on the way to posting a 8-4 record in tournaments around the area. The Lions are led by senior, and University of West Alabama commit, Lee Lann. His stroke average of 39 is only slightly ahead of three year starter, sophomore Clint Phillips. “Lee and Clint are really the backbone of our team. They are solid leaders and are the only team members remaining from a string of state championship participating teams we have had in the recent past. So they know how things are supposed to be done, and I rely on them a lot to help out with the younger players,” stated Coach Dusty Ball.

The remaining participants of the team have been battling for positions all year and have all seen playing time in an effort to produce the best five possible players for each match. Recently the Lions competed in the 4th annual Red Bay Invitational. They earned a runner-up finish out of nine schools from Alabama and Mississippi. Corinth High School (MS) edged the lions by 2 strokes for the win. Lee Lann led the way with a 2nd place individual finish and all tournament team selection, shooting a 79. He was followed closely by Clint Phillips with 86 and seventh grader JB Miller who his career best 87. Rounding out the scoring team was junior Ethan Mobley with 93 and sophomore Riley Frederick with 95. Other competitors included two other first year individuals, seventh grader Rob Richards with 101 and eighth grader Colton Russell with 89.

The entire Haleyville Golf Team would like to thank its many sponsors including: Rowe Building Supply, Traders & Farmers Bank, Jerry McGough CPA, Carl Cannon, Proms & Promises, First National Bank,  Johnson & Hood CPA, Fontaine, Edward Jones investments, and Hughes Lumber.
