The Haleyville Board of Education met Tuesday evening, overshadowed by whom it will choose as the next superintendent and before a filled meeting room. Dozens of people crowded into the board's last meeting before it chooses the system's next superintendent.

Of the few who spoke during the public comment part of the meeting, most expressed their desire that the board hire Haleyville Middle School Principal Russ O'Rear as the next superintendent. All urged the board to hire from within the system. Some forewarned the board from hiring someone from “outside” the community.

During the business part of the meeting, the board re-elected Steve Stott to another term as its President, and elected Boo Houghton as its Vice President.

The board took multiple personnel actions, and that report will be released to the public in its entirety Thursday by 10 AM.

Four actions involved travel and included the band going to the Alabama Bandmasters Association Music In-Service Convention in Murfreesboro, Tenn., July 27.

Salaries to be paid from AARA Funds were re-classified to foundation funds for 2012-2013 school year.
