A 40-year era at Haleyville High School comes to an end May 25 with the retirement of Brenda Tucker. Her retirement was approved Tuesday night by the Haleyville Board of Education.
In other action, the board approved the following:
Board expenditures for March, 2012, in the amount of $1,160,683.95;
Field Trip Request for Drafting Students and Jimmy McCrary to attend Skills USA in Birmingham, April 25-26, 2012;
Field Trip Request for Band Students and Reggie Tolbert to attend All State Band in Mobile, April 11-14, 2012;
Professional Leave Request for Shane Reid and Al Temple to attend Nike Championship Basketball Clinic in Tunica, Miss., May 4-6, 2012;
Leah Epperson, Donna Jones, Tammy McCreless and Susan Riggs to attend Renaissance National Conference in Orlando, Fla., July 13-15, 2012;
Out of state travel for Ashley Tidwell as chaperone to Washington and New York May 12-19, 2012, for the annual Senior Educational Tour; and,
The request of sealed bids for surplus equipment owned by Haleyville City Schools.
The board approved the following personnel actions:
Resignation of Selena Case as Elementary Collaborative Special Education Teacher, effective May 25, 2012;
Personal leave of absence of Genia Knight Bass for the 2012-2013 school year;
Resignation of Tina Batchelor as part-time custodian effective April 13, 2012
Hiring Mark Heaton as head football coach/athletic director for Haleyville City Schools effective, May 1, 2012, for the remainder of the 2011-2012 school year and for the 2012-2013 school year;
Resignation of Jennifer Russell as Elementary Kindergarten teacher, effective May 25, 2012;
Retirement of Brenda Tucker as Biology Teacher at Haleyville High School, effective May 25, 2012;
Hire Kathy Elkins as custodian at Haleyville High School effective, July 1, 2012;
Resignation of Blaine Hathcock as Assistant Principal at Haleyville Middle School, effective May 25, 2012.
The board meets again on Tuesday, May 22, 7 PM.
