CenturyTel employees removed the two payphones in the 21st St/9th Ave corner of the downtown upper parking on Monday. That reduces the number of payphones available to the general public to around four. This follows a national trend that has seen pay phone placement drop by 75% in the last 10 years, mostly attributable to increased cell phone ownership.
