HALEYVILLE BOARD OF EDUCATION

Superintendent’s Report

It is always good to recognize Haleyville students for their accomplishments and it is with much pride to announce that Briley Burleson, a third grade student and daughter of Barry and Kim Burleson, has won Third Place in Alabama PALS 2009 Poster Contest! Briley poster’s advocated keeping our Elementary School campus clean. She competed with other entries from across the State. She will be presented a plaque and recognized at the Alabama PALS Governor’s Awards Luncheon next month in Montgomery. Congratulations Briley for this state wide honor by PALS, People Against A Littered State.

We also like to highlight student organizations when they “give back” to the community. This month’s group is the DECA Club. They are wearing “pink” t-shirts for Breast Cancer Awareness. The DECA Club is also selling pink t-shirts with proceeds going to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research as a Community Service Project.

We are extremely proud of our lunchroom staff at all schools for the tremendous job they do serving well balanced student and adult meals daily while keeping our facilities in tip-top clean order. Our scores from Health Department Inspectors have always been in the high 90s; but this month our Middle School Lunchroom received a perfect score of 100. We can rest assured that the meals prepared at all three lunchrooms are prepared in the cleanest of facilities. Thank you ladies and congratulations to all with extra kudos to the HMS staff!

This Board held a Work Session last Thursday night at the Albright Administrative Building with all members except Larry Burleson present. Conversations were held concerning short and long term system needs/objectives; the close out of building projects; policy changes and additions as well as personnel needs. Reports were also given by principals.

Ms. Sandra Manasco will once again represent the Haleyville Board as our voting delegate at the Alabama Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly in Birmingham on December 3 - 5. Ms. Manasco has been our delegate for the last ten years and represents us well at this annual assembly.

The next Regular Session of the Haleyville City Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday night, November 24, 2009 at 7:00 back in the Board Room at the high school with a Work Session before.
