SENIORS 55 AND OLDER
The Foster Grandparent Program is now accepting applications for senior citizens in five local counties: Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Marion, and Winston. The program is looking for senior citizens who live in these cities and communities.  Work is 15-40 hours a week with special needs children in the school systems. This is an ideal program for people 55 years or older on a fixed income.  Workers will receive a small non-taxed stipend two times a month, mileage reimbursement, and lunch for each day of service. This stipend does not count as income according to Public Law 93-113 under Older Americans Act.  It will not affect any other federal or state assistance which one is already receiving.  Workers will be covered with accidental and personal liability insurance while working with the program.  Senior citizens are needed for the following schools: Guin Elementary, Phillips Elementary, Double Springs Elementary, Lynn Elementary, and Meek Elementary. This program can help seniors make ends meet, provide a sense of well being, a purpose in life and a sense of self esteem. It is a way to make a positive difference in a child’s life.  More information, call (256) 332-6800.
