Ken Williams was a band director and music instructor for thirty four years. Sunday, a large crowd of former students and friends gathered to honor Mr. Williams because he was much more than just a band director. Past band booster presidents testified to Mr. Williams being an inspirational leader who was dedicated to his students' musical, educational, personal and spiritual growth. Mr. Williams was the Haleyville High School (HHS) band director for seventeen years. During which time, he had one hundred six all-state students and his bands won five national championships, and three consecutive Grand National championships. Accolades included his encouragement of students to finish high school and attend college. Naming the newly remodeled HHS band room in his honor was the overall purpose of the gathering.
History has proven his band students became not only great musicians, but better people. With few dry eyes in the room, Mr. Williams was praised for his devoted work which has been reflected in each of his students and their achievements. |
