ROGER SATCHER UPDATES ROTARY ON SCHOOL
Haleyville High School principal Roger Satcher addressed the Haleyville Rotary Club on the Haleyville Schools Renaissance Program. He stated the program was still helping improve the overall academic level through positive motivation of the students. "A zero is no longer accepted," he said. If a student fails to turn in work or miss a test, the student is required to complete the missed work after regular school hours, or on a Saturday. The motivation is to complete the work when scheduled. Mr. Satcher said there were some delays in the renovation of the high school. Plans call for completion and an open house for all three schools in October. The date will be announced later.

Roger Satcher accepts a check for $1300 for the Renaissance Program from the sale of steak dinners preceding the first home football game. This was a joint project of the Haleyville Rotary Club and the Haleyville Renaissance Program.
A major change to the graduation exams was announced by Mr. Satcher and confirmed by Gary Warren, member of the State Board of Education. The graduation exam will be phased out, with the present 7th grade class being the first class not to have a graduation exam. Instead, students will receive an end of course test or evaluation on courses required for graduation. This will be beneficial in identifying teachers who fail to impart the necessary knowledge for course completion. Thus, corrections can be made to compensate, plus the new plan reduces the cost of administrating the graduation exam.
