POLICE CHASE 10-100 ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE

Haleyville policeman Nathan Whitman attempted to warn a driver pulling onto Highway 195 a window air conditioner in the back of his pickup was about to fall out. On seeing the patrol car, the driver sped away and turned on Chicken Foot Road with Whitman in pursuit. The pickup left the paved road, traveled down a dirt road, turning into

a clearing formerly occupied by a mobile home. His truck apparently was snarled by a discarded sofa.The driver abandoned his truck and disappeared on foot into the surrounding woods. Checking the truck, police found a working crystal meth lab in a 3 liter bottle. Haleyville Police Investigator Tim Steien and Sgt. Steve Hicks searched the truck and found the drug lab and various drug paraphernalia. The driver of the 71 Ford pickup has been identified and will have warrants issued for his arrest.

The air conditioner did fall from the truck and landed on the side of Highway 195 near Whitman's gas station.
