According to NW-SCC Athletic Administrator, Charles Taylor. "Scott has the experience and love for the community we were looking for in a coach. I believe he can build a winning tradition with our men's basketball program," said Charles Taylor, Athletic Administrator. "He has been very successful coaching at Phillips; especially, the last couple of seasons. Scott is one of our own. He knows what a great asset athletics is to our community. I look forward to seeing our basketball team make great strides in the coming years both on and off the court."
Prior to coming to NW-SCC, Veal has been the head men's basketball coach at Phillips High School since 2002. Veal coached Phillips to a elite eight appearance in the 2008 Alabama High School state tournament and a final four appearance in 2009, the first in school history. He finished the 2008-09 season with a 31-5 record. Following his record breaking season, Veal received the honor of being selected to coach the North squad in the 12thannual Alabama North-South All-star game. Also, he received such awards as the: Marion County Coach of the Year, Northwest Alabamian Coach of the Year, Northwest Alabama Conference Coach of the Year and TimesDaily 1A-3A Coach of the Year. Throughout his seven seasons at Phillips, Veal has amassed a 130-64 record, a .670 winning percentage.
