VEAL HIRED AS NEW PATRIOTS' BASKETBALL COACH
According to NW-SCC Athletic Administrator, Charles Taylor. "Scott has the experience and love for the community we were looking for in a coach. I believe he can build a winning tradition with our men's basketball program," said Charles Taylor, Athletic Administrator. "He has been very successful coaching at Phillips; especially, the last couple of seasons. Scott is one of our own. He knows what a great asset athletics is to our community. I look forward to seeing our basketball team make great strides in the coming years both on and off the court."

Prior to coming to NW-SCC, Veal has been the head men's basketball coach at Phillips High School since 2002. Veal coached Phillips to a elite eight appearance in the 2008 Alabama High School state tournament and a final four appearance in 2009, the first in school history. He finished the 2008-09 season with a 31-5 record. Following his record breaking season, Veal received the honor of being selected to coach the North squad in the 12thannual Alabama North-South All-star game. Also, he received such awards as the: Marion County Coach of the Year, Northwest Alabamian Coach of the Year, Northwest Alabama Conference Coach of the Year and TimesDaily 1A-3A Coach of the Year. Throughout his seven seasons at Phillips, Veal has amassed a 130-64 record, a .670 winning percentage.

He then transferred to the University of West Alabama to earn his Bachelors degree in Physical Education and his Masters degree from the University of South Alabama.

Veal hopes to use his success on the high school level to help build the Patriots men's basketball program into an Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) contender. "First off, getting this opportunity to coach at a place that is so dear and close to my heart is a dream come true," said Veal. "I am really looking forward to getting started and getting this program back to where it deserves to be in this state and that's on top."
