FIRE DESTROYS DWIGHT WHITTEN HOME

The Bear Creek Fire Department responded in force to fight a house fire at 225 Woodman Drive north of Highway 13 off County Highway 62. Dwight Whitten, who lived alone, was at work at Franklin Homes when the fire was discovered. The wood framed home had recently been renovated with new hardwood floors and paint. The vinyl-sided house was located at the end of a gravel road near Helton's small engine repair service. Haleyville firemen assisted with the call.
