A fire destroyed the home of Ruby Knight at 88 County Road 3215, just off Macedonia Road. Mrs. Knight lived in the house alone but was not home at the time of the fire. It is suspected the fire may have started in the kitchen. The original house was built in 1937 and had been added to, including a two car garage. Six Knight children had called the house their home and their children all knew it as grandmothers house, especially every Thanksgiving and Christmas.
What was not destroyed by fire was damaged beyond use by smoke and water. Ruby's son, Mike, stated the house was full of antiques, pictures and memories, but he was glad his mother was gone at the time of the fire. She also had her pet Chihuahua with her when she went on an errand.
Haleyville and Pebble firemen fought the fire which intensified when lawnmower gasoline stored in the garage burst into flames. |
