COUNCIL HIRES ANDY MARBUTT AS
HALEYVILLE POLICE OFFICER

- Approved at Tuesday night's meeting was the 2007-2008 budget which includes a pay raise for city employees.
- After approving the meeting minutes of 1/3/08 and the general
operating bills for December, the council approved vacating the
alleyway behind the new Movie Gallery.
- Vacating the alleyway was to free the property for construction of a building to house a new Wakefield Furnishing store, which plans to
move from the Haleyville Shopping Center.
- Passed resolution 2008-1, a technical correction to resolution
2007-27 concerning a tax abatement for Alabama Furniture Distributors.
- Andy Marbutt was hired as a qualified police officer. Chief Reogas
stated the department was short 4 police officers. Marbutt was a
Haleyville police dispatcher in 1993-94 and later became a Phil
Campbell police officer.
- Approved advertising for public hearing of Rosewood Apartments to R-3
(multi-family). Plans are for subsidized apartments to be built on
Pounders-Sims Road across from Azalea Manor.
- The council approved to advertise for bids for a new Kubota tractor/
lawn mower for Park & Rec.
- The next scheduled Haleyville city council meeting will be Tuesday,
Feb 4, 6 p.m.
