Mayor Albright presented Fireman Doug Brakefield with a proclamation declaring August as Firefighter Month.

Approved general operation bills for June.

Approved $1,500 increase in appropriation to Dixie Youth to help offset expenses of 9 & 10 year olds to play in state tournament in Prattville.

Approved warrant purchase agreement with Frazer Lanier Company. ($11.5 million bond to be issued by the city for new middle school construction)

Approved paying county to chip seal 14th Way, just off 14th Avenue.

Leon Bridges again asked about the closed bridge on Alabama Avenue and was told by city attorney Shane Cook that the railroad could not be sued, thus it was up to the city to get an engineer's assessment of the cost of installing a railroad crossing in place of the bridge.

The next scheduled meeting of the council will be Tuesday, August 7, 6 p.m. at city hall.
