1. The 2006-2007 Accountability Reports for Haleyville City Schools are available for review at the Boyce S. Albright Administrative Building. These reports contain data in the following categories: financial, student achievement, and school safety and discipline. You may also view information by visiting the State Department of Education web site, www.alsde.edu, under the section labeled 2007
Accountability Reporting and on our local school web site.
2. Condolences to the Billy Sibley family. Billy was one of our Traffic/Crossing Guards. He did an outstanding job directing traffic safely in the mornings and afternoons, regardless of the weather conditions. He will be sorely missed.
3. This year’s Senior Play was a huge success. It was a musical comedy set in the 1920’s entitled Flapper! Congratulations on a great performance to our senior class cast members and faculty directors: Mrs. Beth Townsend; Mrs. Claire Frazier; Mrs. Whitney Webb; and Mr. Bill Bishop. Special thanks to Mrs. Margaret Dale Pugh for her assistance.
4. The new pick-up procedure at the Elementary School is going as smoothly as it possibly can. Mr. O’Rear will elaborate the details, but this Board believes Student Safety is the number one priority of this change in afternoon pick-up procedures. Please remember, time is not the issue, the safety of our students is. An extra five or so minutes is a small price to pay for student welfare. We thank all for their cooperation and understanding.
5. I want to continue spotlighting our school groups that do something special for the community and beyond. This month is our band director and Band Booster organization for donating an antique tuning device to the Percussive Arts Society in Indianapolis, IN. The tuning device is obsolete and cannot be used with today’s equipment as it was made by the J.C. Deagan Company in the 1920’s. The Deagan Company was in the forefront of musical innovation in the early decades of the 20th Century. The device donated was evaluated to be in “very good” condition and is very rare. Congratulations to Mr. Muncher and the Band Boosters for helping preserve musical instrument history.
6. This Board held a Work Session last night at the Albright Administrative Building with all members present. We discussed the construction of our new middle school, personnel needs, proposed renovations to the high school, along with other short and long range needs, objectives, and concerns of our school system. No official business was transacted.
7. The next regular session of the Haleyville City Board of Education is scheduled for January 22 at 7:00 pm here in the Choral Music Room of HHS with a Work Session to proceed. Because personnel issues, a called meeting may be necessary; if so, the public will be notified through the media. |
