RE: 2006 Accountability/AYP Results
Haleyville City Schools are continuing its tradition of excellent education experiences for all students. In Tuesday’s edition of a major state newspaper, an article indicated that Haleyville City Schools only met 50% of the goals of the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test as listed on the School Status Report for Adequate Yearly Progress for 2006-2007. This is NOT true! Both of our schools had 17 goals to meet. The Elementary School met 100% (17 of 17) of their goals. The High School met 94.12% (16 of 17) of required goals. The accurate and correct system total, therefore, is Haleyville City Schools met 33 of 34 goals or 97%. A grade of 97 on the standard scale is an “A”. The Haleyville City Schools System “Made AYP” status for the Accountability Year 2006-2007 based on last April’s test results. These are the true statistics for Haleyville City Schools. The results can be viewed on the State Department of Education website at www.alsde.edu under Accountability Reporting.
For a report to be slanted negatively is an insult to our students, teachers, administrators, support staff, parents, and our community as a whole. Can we improve our schools, of course; and we are working diligently to do so. Please know that Haleyville City Schools are preparing students today for life tomorrow and beyond. We will never be satisfied or complacent in our quest to offer the very best educational and extra-curricular opportunities for the children of Haleyville and surrounding area.
