Sudden Wind Damage |
|
Leon Dodd surveys damage to the roofs
of two buildings on his Dime Road property.
A neighbor, Phillip Elkins witnessed the
unique event as the "mini-tornado" took
metal roofing from two former
chicken houses. The wind apparently caused an
electrical line to be broken and in
turn started a minor grass fire. The
Haleyville Fire Department
quickly responded to an explosion
and fire call to 9-1-1.
The explosion was apparently
the electrical short and the fire
was the dry grass. |
|
No one was injured and property
damage was limited to the metal
roof and insulation blown off. According to Phillip Elkins, the wind
took the metal and insulation high into
the air and dropped it over 1/4 mile away.
Having a witness describe the wind
damage eliminated doubt as to
what had occurred. |
