Ultralight Aircraft Crashes |

A small ultralight aircraft piloted by
Roger Sides of Double Springs crashed
just outside the airport fence at the
northeast end of the runway.
Mike Taylor saw the aircraft on approach
to runway 18. Mike heard the engine rev and
seconds later he heard the
loud thump of the impact.
When Mike Tayor arrived at the crash site he
found Roger Sides trapped in plane.
Mike helped Roger from the wreckage.
Haleyville, Pebble and Bear Creek
Fire Departments responded quickly. The aircraft owner, Ted Murray of
Phil Campbell, stated Roger was checking
out the plane prior to administrating a
checkride to Ted. Roger was prepared for movement
by fireman Andy Frederick and RPS medic.
Roger Sides was transported by ambulance
to the airport to be picked up by an Air Evac helicopter. Roger Sides was transported to UAH in Huntsville.The actual
cause of the aircraft accident
is unknown and will be investigated by
the Federal Aviation Administration
and the National Transportation Safety Board. |
