MISSISSIPPI MAN INDICTED IN ALABAMA IN A MURDER-FOR-HIRE SCHEME

BIRMINGHAM, AL - An Indictment was filed today in U.S. District Court charging WILLIAM DAVID JACKSON with murder-for-hire.

According to U.S. Attorney Alice H. Martin, JACKSON, 51, a resident of Booneville, Mississippi, traveled to Haleyville, Alabama on December 29, 2005, where it is alleged that JACKSON schemed for the murder of Marie Holcome for the payment of $2,500. JACKSON was arrested on state charges immediately following the meeting and is currently out on bond.

“Jackson drove from Mississippi to Alabama for the express purpose of putting a “hit” or murder contract on this young women’s life,” stated U.S. Attorney Martin. “I commend law enforcement’s quick actions in this case.”

If convicted, JACKSON now faces a federal prison sentence of not more than ten years, and a fine of up to $250,000.

This investigation was conducted by Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Winston County Sheriff’s Department. Assistant United States Attorney Alison Blackwell is prosecuting this case on behalf of the U.S. Government.

Members of the public are reminded that the indictment contains only charges. A defendant is presumed innocent of the charges and it will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
