Nisa Miranda is the Director of the University Center for Economic Development at the University of Alabama, a position she has held since 1995. Prior to this appointment, she served for ten years as the Director of the Alabama International Trade Center, the premier research and trade development program in the State of Alabama. Her responsibilities for the University Center for Economic Development include providing technical assistance in economic development and international business strategies to communities, organizations and private firms; and structuring projects and innovative programs that build capacity, expand the civic and elected leadership base, and create the environment for sustainable economic development.

Ms. Miranda has successfully developed nationally recognized demonstration projects at the Center for such agencies as the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Tennessee Valley Authority and several foreign organizations. She is a founding member of two non-profit organizations that support economic development in rural and distressed areas, the Alabama Communities of Excellence, Inc. and Your Town Alabama, Inc. She serves on the Southern Growth Policies Board---Southern Global Strategy Council, Alabama Agribusiness Council and on the Board of Initiative Seven, the non-profit organization to support economic development initiatives in Alabama Congressman Artur Davis' district.

A native of Brazil, Ms. Miranda holds an M.B.A. from The University of Alabama.
