August 2 - Accident Investigation Leads to Felony Charges

James M. Lauderdale, age 45 of Bear Creek was involved in a motor vehicle accident on August 2 at 2:39 PM. During the investigation of the accident information was obtained regarding a large number of floppy disks and a computer in the van that some of these could contain material considered to be child pornography. After obtaining a consent to search and a review of the material by the Haleyville Police Department sufficient evidence to charge James M. Lauderdale with the possession of child pornography material led to his arrest. He was transferred to the custody of the Winston County Sheriff's Department on August 4.
