.Robert Dale Ingram - Sentenced to 100 Years

On Tuesday, June 28, 2005, Robert Dale Ingram, Jr. (age 34), of Oakman appeared before the Circuit Court of Winston County for sentencing on two (2) counts of Sexual Torture, two (2) counts of Rape in the First Degree, and one (1) count of Domestic Violence in the First Degree. Ingram was convicted of the five (5) offenses on May 17, 2005, following a two-day jury trial before
Circuit Judge John Bentley.

Judge Bentley sentenced Ingram to 50 years in the state penitentiary on each of the five (5) charges. Two of the sentences were ordered to run consecutively and three were ordered to run concurrently, resulting in a total term of imprisonment of 100 years. Ingram was also ordered to pay restitution for medical expenses, along with a $20,000 fine and court costs.

The charges arose out of Ingram's taking his then 29-yar-old wife to an abandoned mobile home in the Poplar Springs area of Winston County, where he beat her with a hoe or shovel handle and then tied her to a bed and repeatedly sexually assaulted her. The Winston and Walker County sheriff's departments investigated the case.

Deputy District Attorney Neal Cook, who prosecuted Ingram, had the following comment following the sentencing: "I am pleased with the sentences. Mr. Ingram is a dangerous and violent individual who will, thankfully, be kept off our streets for many years to come. I again thank the victim for her courage and thank Judge Bentley for his wisdom."

District Attorney Jack Bostick expressed his gratitude to all of those who were involved in the investigation and prosecution of Ingram.
